Why me? Understanding pulling a little more deeply
In last night’s support group, we spent some time talking about a question many people carry quietly: “Why me?”
We reflected together that while understanding causes can be interesting, real change often comes from focusing on triggers, patterns, and what helps in the moment — rather than trying to find a single explanation.
That said, for anyone who is curious about the science behind pulling and picking, I wanted to share a recording of a webinar I hosted a few months ago with Clare Mackay. Clare brings a unique perspective — she lives with picking and pulling herself and studies these behaviours from a neuroscience lens. In the webinar, she explores what research is beginning to suggest about possible underlying mechanisms and vulnerabilities.
This recording is shared purely as an optional resource — not because you need to “know the cause” to make progress, but because understanding can sometimes bring relief, self-compassion, and a sense of not being alone.
💛 If it feels helpful, you’re welcome to watch. If not, that’s okay too.
